Explorer Scouts are for young people from 14 - 18 years who meet on alternate Mondays (ish) for social, fun, challenging and exciting activities. Explorer Scouts are a Scout District provision but Lanark Explorers have a partnership with 2nd Lanark Scout Group. Explorers attending this Unit come from all over the District and for those who have come through the Scouting movement, many comtinue to meet and work with their own Groups, as well as taking a full part in the Lanark Explorer Unit programme.

Many of the Explorers are working towards their Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards alongside the Scouting award scheme. We also train the Explorers to be Young Leaders with the other sections in the group (should they wish to do so) and this also gives them the opportunity to undertake the SQA Higher Leadership award.

We enjoy taking part in camps, both local and national. In 2014 we had Explorers representing the Region at the Blair Atholl International Jamborette and in 2015, some Explorers from our Unit attended the World Scout Jamboree in Japan, others undertook an 18 day expedition in Java, Indonesia and a number attended the Haarlem Jamborette in Holland. 2016 sees a number of Explorers again attending the Blair Atholl International Patrol Jamborette, and 2 of our Explorers recieve their Queen Scout Award, the top youth award in Scouting.

2017 will see a number of our Explorer complete their Explorer Belts in Central Europe as part of the Clyde Region Expedition and we are hoping for 10 more Queen Scout Awards and at least twelve Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards.
